Production Team – General Hands, Extrusion Operators & Process Controllers | Toronto

Programmed is seeking motivated people to join our client’s Manufacturing Team. The operation manufactures high density polyethylene pipes ranging from 16mm to 800mm in diameter. We have opportunities for General Hands, Extrusion Operators and Process Controllers with roles suited to candidates ranging from entry-level production workers to experienced process operators.

You will help maintain a safe, clean and productive workplace while ensuring products are manufactured efficiently and meet quality specifications.

Roles Available:

General Hand

Support daily operations across the factory, recycle plant and yard by:

  • Completing general housekeeping and labouring tasks
  • Assisting operators, supervisors and tradespeople
  • Supporting tooling changeovers, machine setup, cleaning and basic maintenance
  • Using hand and power tools safely
  • Completing product counts, quality checks and stocktake activities
  • Following all safety, quality and workplace procedures

Extrusion Operator

Operate production machinery to manufacture quality pipe products by:

  • Operating machinery in line with specifications and production schedules
  • Completing daily plant pre-start checks and reporting faults
  • Monitoring output, troubleshooting routine issues and adjusting machine settings
  • Conducting quality checks and obtaining samples for QA
  • Packaging and labelling finished products
  • Operating forklifts and lifting equipment
  • Supporting stocktakes, housekeeping and yard activities

Applicants for this role must hold a current NSW driver licence and forklift licence. HR or HC licence is desirable for relief driving duties.

Process Controller

Operate and monitor extrusion lines while maintaining stable and efficient production by:

  • Monitoring process conditions and responding to routine variations within approved limits
  • Escalating abnormal conditions, faults or risks to the Shift Supervisor
  • Performing documented startup, shutdown and changeover activities
  • Conducting product sampling, testing and specification checks
  • Investigating non-conformances and assisting with corrective actions
  • Completing shift logs, production reports and quality records
  • Coordinating with production, maintenance, quality and EHSQ teams
  • Supporting safety initiatives, audits, observations and risk assessments

Depending on the role, successful applicants will demonstrate:

  • A strong commitment to WHS, EHSQ and safe working practices
  • The ability to follow procedures, job instructions and standard operating parameters
  • Good communication skills and a team-focused approach
  • Reliability, self motivation and effective time management
  • Attention to detail when completing quality checks and production records
  • A willingness to learn plant equipment and manufacturing processes
  • The ability to remain calm and focused in a fast-paced production environment
  • Basic problem solving skills and sound judgement about when to escalate issues
  • A commitment to housekeeping, waste reduction and continuous improvement

Experience in manufacturing, plastics, extrusion or another process driven industrial environment is desirable, particularly for Extrusion Operator and Process Controller applicants.

Basic computer and data-entry skills are required for the Process Controller role. Relevant technical or trade qualifications are desirable but not essential.

  • Report hazards, near misses, incidents, equipment defects and quality concerns promptly
  • Follow WHS, environmental, quality and risk-control requirements
  • Maintain clean and organised work areas
  • Participate in toolbox talks, training and site safety programs
  • Work collaboratively to meet production schedules and quality targets
  • Complete all required production, quality and shift documentation accurately
